Introduction
James Gilliam of Littleton Parish, Cumberland County, VA was born in New Kent County, VA. He settled in Cumberland by the 1760’s and took as his second wife the widow Catherine Manning of New Kent. James left a Will dated 1774 in which he remembers his children and grandchildren most of whom remained in Cumberland and Powhatan Counties for the next several decades.
