Background

Overview
Katherine Hetherton Archer, the wife of James Dabney GILLIAM became, at the turn of the century, for a short while, the proprietor of the Windsor Hotel, Farmville. It appears that Katherine after 29 Nov 1900 purchases the hotel from the estate of Rosa B. Russell, the former proprietor, and operates the hotel until the family removes to Norfolk. The family can be found in a 1909 Norfolk Directory as well as the 1910 Census.

The Banquet
The proceedings at the Hall were followed by the Alumnae banquet which was given at the Armory. The supper was prepared under the supervision of Mrs. Dabney GILLIAM of the Windsor Hotel, and was the work of a true artist. No expense had been spared to secure the delicacies of the season all of which had been prepared and served with consummate skill and exquisite taste.
