Overview
In 13 Oct 1797 Robert GILLIAM sells the land on Cannon's Branch that James GILLIAM, Sr., of Littleton Parish had bequeathed him to John Sandige. In 1799, as Robert GILLIAM of Jackson County, GA, Robert GILLIAMs sells to Robert Taylor of Powhatan a slave, Peter, he purchased of John Sandige. In 1797 it appears that John Sandige mortgages the tract Robert GILLIAM had inherited and subsequently sold to him, to Robert Taylor and John Woodson in order that Robert GILLIAM may receive the monies that he is due.

This indenture made this sixteenth day of October one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven between John Sandige of the county of Cumberland of the one part and Robert Taylor of the county of Powhatan and John Woodson, C.F., of the county of Goochland of the other part, witnesseth, that the said John Sandige for and in consideration of the just sum of one hundred pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Robert Taylor and John Woodson the receipt whereof viz. hereby confessed, that granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell to the said Robert Taylor and John Woodson a certain tract or parcel of land containing by estimation two hundred acres more or less lying in the waters of Cannons branch of the Willises river in the said county of Cumberland bounded by the lands of Joseph Carrington, Robert Carrington, Philemon Davidson, Charles GILLIAM, Drury Woodson & Daniel Boatright which said tract or parcel of land was convey to the said John Sandige by deed bearing date the day of the date of these presents by Robert GILLIAM of the said County of Cumberland together with all the premises & appurtenances to the said tract or parcel of land belonging or anywise appertaining also a negro woman named Phillis, on home, there head of nott cattle, & four feather beds & furniture. To have & to hold the said tract or parcel of land & premises & the negro woman and other personal property hereby conveyed or meant to be conveyed to the said Robert Taylor and John Woodson their heirs or assigns to the only proper use benefit and behoof of them the said Robert Taylor and John Woodson their heirs or assigns forever, and the said John Sandige for himself and his heirs doth covenant to and with the said Robert Taylor and John Woodson & their heirs that he the said John Sandige & his their shall & will warrant and for defend the right & title in and to the said tract or parcel of land and the premises thereunto belonging also the said negro woman and & other property against the claim or demand of all and every person & persons whatsoever provided always and the true intent and meaning of this Indenture is,t hat if the said John Sandige, his heirs etc shall pay or cause to be paid to the above named Robert GILLIAM his heirs or assigns, the just sum of one hundred pounds current money of Virginia for which sum he the said John Sandige has passed his bond bearing date on the sixteenth day of October one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven payable to the said Robert GILLIAM his heirs etc., by the following installments to wit, twenty pound and the sixteenth day of October, one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight the like sum of twenty pounds on the sixteenth day of each succeeding October until the said sum of one hundred pounds shall be fully paid and satisfied, then is Indenture & every part & parcel thereof to be void & of none effect, & the said John Sandige for himself & his heirs covenant & agree to and with the said Robert Taylor & John Woodson & their heirs etc that he will well & Truly pay the said one hundred pounds by the installments aforesaid and as it shall so happen that on the sixteenth day of October which shall be in the year one thousand eight hundred and two when the last payment shall become due the said sum or any part thereof shall remain unpaid it shall be lawful for the said Robert Taylor and John Woodson or anyone of them, their heirs etc to enter upon the premises & hold and enjoy the same in as full & ample a manner as if no equity of redemption had been inserted in this indenture and that they the said Robert Taylor and John Woodson or either of them, their heirs etc may sell the said land, negro & other property or so much thereof as will be to satisfy the said one hundred pound with lawful interest form the date on which the several installments shall become due or so much thereof as shall be due at the time such sale shall be made together with the expense of recording this deed & the expenses attending the advertising and conducting such sale, provided that such sale shall at public auction after at least one month's publication in some one of the Richmond Gazettes. In testimony where of the said John Sandige hath hereunto set his hand & seal third day month & year above written.

At a Court held of Cumberland County the 26th day of March 1798, the within deed of Trust from John Sandige to Robert Taylor and John Woodson was proved by two of the witnesses thereto as to Sandige and acknowledged by the said Taylor, and at a Court held for said county the 23rd day of April 1798 the same was acknowledged by John Sandige and John Woodson and ordered to be recorded.

This indenture made this thirty first day of March one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine between Robert Taylor of the County of Powhatan and John Woodson of the County of Goochland of the one part and John Sandige of the County of Cumberland of the other part whereas the said John Sandige did on the sixteenth day of October one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven by deed of Indenture recorded in the court of the said county of Cumberland convey to the said Robert Taylor and John Woodson a certain tract or parcel of land lying in the latter named county containing by estimation two hundred acres more or less together with certain enumerated personal property, goods, chattels, upon trust as a security for ensuring the payment of one hundred pounds current money of Virginia with the accruing interest thereon agreeable to certain installments therein mentioned being a debt due to Robert GILLIAM then of the County of Cumberland aforesaid but now of the county of Jackson and State of Georgia and also the expense of recording the said trust deed, and whereas the said John Sandige hath made compleat [sic] provision for the discharge of all the conditions contained in the said trust deed on his part; all the premises and conditions herein mentioned will more fully & completely appear on a reference to the said trust deed. This indenture therefore witnesseth the said Robert Taylor and John Woodson for and in consideration of the said John Sandige having fully provided for the payment of the debt in trust and expenses above mentioned and more especially for and in consideration of the sum five shillings to them in hand, paid by the said John Sandige the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged to by these present, grant and release to the said John Sandige all the fee simple or trust right which they hold or might hold under the said trust deed to all the land, personal estates, and goods and chattels conveyed to them by the trust deed aforesaid and the said Robert Taylor and John Woodson for themselves and their respective heirs doth by these presents covenant and agree to and with the said John Sandige that the said Robert Taylor and the John Woodson and their heirs respectively shall and will at all times warrant and defend the rights and title in and to the land, personal estate, and goods and chattels hereby released from the trust deed aforesaid against the claim or demand of themselves and their respective heirs and against the claim or demand of any other person or persons claiming under them the said Robert Taylor or John Woodson and their heirs respectively, but against the claim or demand of any other person or persons whatever except that which is expressed in this warranty, the said Robert Taylor and John Woodson or their respective heirs are not considered as bound to a warrant against the claim or demand of any other person or persons whatever. In Testimony whereof the said Robert Taylor and John Woodson have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and month and year first above written.

At a court held for Cumberland County the 27th day of May 1799. This deed of release from Robert Taylor and John Woodson, to John Sandige is proved by Francis B. Deane and Samuel Wilson two of the witnesses thereto. And at a Court held for said county the 23rd day of July 1799. The same was further proved by Philemon Davidson a witness thereto and ordered to be recorded.
