Background
This tract was purchased three years earlier by Epaphroditus on 3 Aug 1749 for £23 from Jeremiah Parker Rich. Epaphroditus at purchase refers to himself as of St. Martin's Parish, Louisa.





This indenture made this 16th day of June in the year of our Lord Christ, one thousand seven hundred & fifty two

Between, Epaphroditus GILLIAM of the Parish of St. James Northam, in the County of Goochland, of the one part, and John Macquarry of the same parish & county of the other part

Witnesseth, that the said Epaphroditus GILLIAM, for & in consideration of the sum of the thirty pound curr. Money of Virginia to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged

Hath given, granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed & confirm’d & by these presents Doth give, grant, bargained, sold aliened, enfeoffed & confirm unto the said John Macquarry & to his heirs and assignees forever all that tract or parcel of land & plantation of the said Epaphroditus GILLIAM scituate lying & being in the parish of St. James, Northam, in the County aforesaid, on the branches of Lickinghole Creek & bounded as followeth to with

Beginning at Wm. Atkinson’s corner pine running
Thence a long his line south 51.5 degrees, East, 101 poles to two pines, in the said line
Thence new lines, north 36 degrees, east 36 poles to pointers,
Thence North 32.5 degrees, east 71 poles to a pine at the head of a Branch,
North 75 degrees, west, 40 poles to pointers,
South 81 degrees, west 95 poles to pointers, in the said Atkinson’s line
Thence along the same South 14.5 degrees, west 27 poles to the first station

Containing by estimation 50 acres be the same more or less with all houses, orchards, gardens, fences, woods and underwoods, and all other appurtenances, whatsoever to the same belonging or in anywise appertaining to have and to hold the said tract of parcel of land and plantation of the said Epaphroditus GILLIAM unto the said John
Mackquarry and to his heirs to the only proper use & behoof of the said John Mackquarry his heirs & assigns forever and the said Epaphroditus GILLIAM doth hereby covenant & agree for himself & his heirs, that he will warrant & defend the said land unto the said John Mackquarry & to his heirs and assigns forever

Epaphroditus Gilham acknowledged this Deed with the Livery of Seizin and receipt endorsed to be his acts & deeds, which were ordered to be recorded.
